Read Local Challenge

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I hope you had an amazing summer … and yes, I know, summer isn’t technically over until September 22nd, but the weather is cooler, leaves are turning, and kids are back in school, so for me? It’s fall.

I love fall.

I love the whole crisp notebooks, new pens, and fresh slate feeling that September brings, shaking off the lazy days of summer and inspiring me to once again roll up my sleeves and work hard on my goals. And one of my biggest goals? To read more. So I’m in luck thanks to our regional …

Interesting in doing more reading as well this fall? Awesome, here’s some information from the SCBWI MD/DE/WV website as well as links for the full scoop on how you can be involved!

What if you found out that your favorite author also liked to hang out at your favorite pizza place?

Discover books by authors who live in your own state – maybe even your own neighborhood! Our Read Local Challenge features traditionally-published authors and illustrators from Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

We invite all schools, libraries, home-school groups, scout troops … groups of any size to join us! Take the challenge to read as many of these books from local authors/illustrators as you can, for a chance to win fabulous prizes, such as signed books and free Skype visits with one of our Read Local authors or illustrators. Then visit our websites to find our already-scheduled book signings and events, or to schedule a visit to your school or library.

Click here to discover which of our regional authors are participating and how you can invite them for a speaking engagement as well as learn how you can host a Free Read Local Kickoff Party! For a direct link to sign up as a host, click here.

You can also download full Read Local 2017-2018 Challenge Book List, broken down in three genres:
