Deadlines, News, and Upcoming Events!

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful, amazing, fantastic holiday season so far. For those of you who, like me, have been super busy shopping, decorating, baking, and running around like a rapid mad woman muttering nonsensical to yourself about how there’s only FIFTEEN DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS, (well, maybe that last one is just me,) here’s a reminder of deadlines and upcoming events!

Deadline for the Jack Reid Memorial Scholarship Competition is December 15

In memory of longtime volunteer Jack Reid, the MD/DE/WV SCBWI Region offers two scholarships, one for a writer and one for an illustrator, to the March 2017 conference.  Writers wishing to apply should send up to 10 double-spaced pages of a work for children or young adults. Illustrators should send up to 3 jpg selections of their work. A cover letter, stating reason for applying, should accompany all entries.  When entering, state the year in which you are applying for a scholarship.

Applicants should include name on cover letters, but not in actual manuscripts or illustrations.  Submissions will be judged anonymously by the scholarship committee.

Applicants must be current SCBWI members, living within our MD/DE/WV region and not currently represented by a literary agent or with a project (manuscript or illustrations) currently under contract.

Email your submission to by December 15, 2016.  Winners will be announced in early January, prior to the opening of conference registration. Good luck!
