Happy Wednesday, everyone! Just a quick post here to make sure you know about all the awesome upcoming events for our region. From our lovely co-regional advisor Kathy MacMillan:

THIS WEEKEND! Saturday, April 23 from 1-4 PM

Write-In/Sketch-In at the Perry Hall Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library, 9685 Honeygo Blvd., Perry Hall, MD 21128. You can spend the afternoon, or just drop in for a little while to work on your latest project surrounded by fellow authors and illustrators. There will be refreshments, hourly door prizes, and lots of moral support on tap! This program is co-sponsored by Baltimore County Public Library and open to all! Please register on our website by April 20.

NEW: PAL (Published and Listed) Members Veronica Bartles, Susan Detwiler, and Kathy MacMillan will be offering query letter, first page, or illustration critiques during the Write-in/Sketch-in.  The cost is $10 for a 10-minute critique. 

Saturday, April 30th at 1 PM

Garden Sketch Crawl at the beautiful Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20902. Brookside Gardens includes an Aquatic Garden, Azalea Garden, Butterfly Garden, Children’s Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Style Garden, Rain Garden, and the Woodland Walk. Bring your sketch pad, favorite illustrating tools, and a lunch and take in the spring gardens and camaraderie of fellow artists! The rain date/time is May 1st at 2:00. Please register on our website by April 26.

Saturday, May 14 at 2PM

Author’s Book Club with Elaine Ann Allen: Create a Social Media Plan.  A social media plan is a must in today’s marketplace. Learn the essentials of how to develop your brand, from creating a website to setting up your social media accounts. Don’t have a book published yet? Use your social media to network and increase your visibility. Bring your laptop and your imagination for a rapid-fire workshop!  Elaine Ann Allen is the author of Olly Explores and 7 Wonders of the Chesapeake Bay.  This program is co-sponsored by AACPL and the MD/DE/WV Region of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and is open to all.  Please register on our website by May 11.

Saturday, May 21 from 10AM-6PM

The Gaithersburg Book Festival is at the Gaithersburg City Hall Grounds. Our MD/DE/WV SCBWI region table will feature information about our region’s activities as well as eight of our Published and Listed Members selling their books.
