Goodbye and Hellos: Regional Faculty Changes

Let’s do the sad goodbyes first, shall we?

Goodbye, Sue Peters, one awesome co-RA!

Sue PetersSue Peters, THANK YOU for all the hard work you’ve done for our region since taking on the role of regional co-advisor three years ago! We truly appreciate the time you invested in order to help others reach their writing, drawing, and creative dreams. And girl, you certainly went out with a bang by helping to put on an amazing Team SCBWI conference last month! Thank you and best of luck with your future endeavors. 🙂

And now, let’s move on to the happy hellos!

Hello to our new co-RA, Kathy MacMillan!

Kathy MacMillan author photo color 4x4300dpiCongratulations and welcome to our new co-advisor, Kathy McMillan, who will be leading our region along with Sue Poduska! Kathy is the author of the YA fantasy novel SWORD AND VERSE (HarperTeen, 2016), as well as several resource books for educators and parents.  She’s also founder of The Sweet Sixteens debut group of 2016 mid-grade and young adult authors.

We chatted with Kathy back in late 2014 and again in January after Sword and Verse’s release. Be sure to check out her interviews and get to know our new co-advisor!

And Hello to our new PAL  Coordinator, Veronica Bartles!

The howdy’s continue with a huge welcome to Veronica Bartles, our new Published and Listed Member Coordinator for our region! She has recently returned to the area after some time away, which is our gain because of her excitement and enthusiasm for her new role. Veronica’s debut young adult novel, TWELVE STEPS was released in March 2014 by Swoon Romance, and her debut picture book, THE PRINCESS AND THE FROGS will be published in November 2016 from Balzer & Bray.

Be sure to look for our Coffee & Conversations interview with Veronica on Friday!

And lastly, I’m so grateful to be a part of this region with all of our enthusiastic members and fantastic faculty, both past and present. Happy writing and drawing, all!

About Laura Bowers

Laura is a writer, runner, reader, runDisney addict, and blogger at As The Eraser Burns, Joyful Miles, and Write, Run, Rejoice. In the past, she's been a waitress, telemarketer, cook, real estate agent, and during her college days, a costumed character at holiday parades. (Memories of being terrorized as a candy cane still haunt her at night.) At the age of thirty, she pursued her dream of being a writer. Her first novel, Beauty Shop for Rent, a “Steel Magnolias for teens,” was inspired by a rusted sign by a charming old house, and now, she can honestly say that writing is a thousand times more rewarding than being a candy cane!
