It’s just a little more than a month until our Team SCBWI conference, and coincidently, the spring equinox. I am looking forward to BOTH, and hope you’ve registered for the conference. What could be nicer than the arrival of spring and a children’s literature gathering?
Today we have a sneak peek. Joining us in the Cyber Cafe is the lovely Linda Camacho, a literary agent with Prospect Agency, who will be one of our guest faculty members at the conference. She joined the agency after nearly a decade in publishing, including internships at Simon & Schuster and Writers House and then stints at Penguin and Random House. At the conference, the marketer-turned-agent will focus on craft as her theme, and reveal the way to get and keep everyone’s attention with your manuscript.
First off, what’s your favorite coffeehouse beverage?
Caramel frappuccinos, definitely!
And your favorite snack?
When I’m being “good,” hummus. When I’m being “bad,” which is very frequent, cookies!
What was your favorite book as a child?
I have a soft spot for Anne of a Green Gables.
And now, what’s your favorite book as an adult?
Um, I get back to you on that?
You magically find a $100.00 bill in your box of cereal. In what frivolous way would you spend it? (Key word: Frivolous!)
I’d buy this gorgeous pair of earrings I’d been eyeing!
You’ve been locked in a bank vault Twilight Zone style, so you finally have time to read! Your glasses are fine (whew!) so what’s the first book you crack open?
I’d probably be in the mood for an amazing epic fantasy, so I’d choose Girl of Fire and Thorns.
If you followed the career path you chose for yourself in high school, what would you be doing for a living now?
Divorce lawyer–It appealed to my cynicism.
I’d want to hang out with Edgar Allan Poe, since he was exceptionally dark and fascinating.
What’s your favorite motivational quote?
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” –Wayne Gretzky
If you could sum up your best marketing advice for new writers or illustrators in only four words, what would it be?
Be passionate; be genuine.
Thanks again and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the conference!
