SCBWI The Book and New York Registration News!

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Okay, I’ve been an SCBWI member for, oh … a seriously long time. So long that I’ve never received a copy of SCBWI’s The Book, which is sent to all new members. But that’s okay, because all registered members can either order a printed copy for a minimal fee or download this for free from the website!

From the SCBWI Website:

Announcing the publication of THE BOOK: THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO PUBLISHING FOR CHILDREN. Formerly known as the SCBWI Publications Guide, the new book is a completely revamped and updated edition, with a new look, new name and a full complement of current, essential articles on all aspects of the children’s book publishing industry.

New and relevant articles feature such topics as maximizing social media, creating book trailers, best practices in independent publishing, and grassroots promotion. A highlight of THE BOOK is the up-to-the-minute Market Survey, which includes a comprehensive house by house listing of editors, art directors and key personnel. Other useful surveys are The International Market Survey, The Book Reviewers Directory, The Agents Directory, and a unique feature called Edited By, in which editors have been personally surveyed to provide a history of their recent acquisitions. Other key resources include an annotated bibliography of essential reference books for any aspiring children’s book author or illustrator, as well as a current listing of bloggers, reviewers, grants and awards.

The three hundred page comprehensive, hands-on tool is designed to guide children’s book writers and illustrators through their publishing careers. THE BOOK is available in hard copy and online to SCBWI members.

“THE BOOK is an incredibly useful tool, which will become your guide as you pursue your career in children’s publishing,” commented Lin Oliver, SCBWI Executive Director. “We put a great deal of time into creating this professional resource,” added Stephen Mooser, SCBWI President. “We hope it serves our members well.”

A printed copy of the current SCBWI Publication Guide is sent to each new SCBWI member upon joining. If you are a current member and would like to order a hard copy of the current Publication Guide, please enter your information below. You may also request one in writing by sending a check or money order with your name and address to SCBWI Publication Guide, 8271 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048. The total charge is $6 to cover the cost of printing, shipping and handling.
For Canada and Mexico, the charge is US$20, and for other countries outside the United States, US$24.

About Laura Bowers

Laura is a writer, runner, reader, runDisney addict, and blogger at As The Eraser Burns, Joyful Miles, and Write, Run, Rejoice. In the past, she's been a waitress, telemarketer, cook, real estate agent, and during her college days, a costumed character at holiday parades. (Memories of being terrorized as a candy cane still haunt her at night.) At the age of thirty, she pursued her dream of being a writer. Her first novel, Beauty Shop for Rent, a “Steel Magnolias for teens,” was inspired by a rusted sign by a charming old house, and now, she can honestly say that writing is a thousand times more rewarding than being a candy cane!

  1. John Lederer says:

Hello, We are looking for a writer and a Illustrator to put together a childrens book on “Zaching”. Zaching is the act of showing strength by flexing your muscles. It is used by Cancer patients and their caregivers. It is also used by kids to show strength against all aspects of life including bullying. Google Zaching and you will find a lot of information on this phenomenon. Thank you, John
