Announcing a Writing/Illustrating Retreat by the Sea!

If you’ve been yearning for time to get away to write/illustrate, OR if you’d love the opportunity to take some workshops, here’s your chance!

WHERE: The Virden Center, 700 Pilottown Rd., Lewes Delaware

WHEN: Saturday, November 17, 2012 with options to stay Friday and/or Saturday nights

Optional Workshops on Saturday to include:

  • “Pencils and Scissors”Sometimes scissors are just as important as pencils. In this revision workshop Lois Szymanski challenges writers to cut, cut, cut.  Introducing her color-code revision system,Szymanski will discuss the laundry list of items she looks for when revising. From basic editing, to hashing out plot, to polishing the final product, learn what to look for. Bring at least four color markers and a piece of your writing for an optional opportunity try out the system on a portion of your WIP.  Find out more about our Co-Regional Advisor and author Lois Szymanski and her books at http://www.loisszymanski.com.
  • “Write Like an Illustrator”

Illustrator and author, Nancy Carol Willis, will show how she uses storyboards to develop the “scenes” in her children’s nature books. She will share how “thinking in pictures” can improve descriptive writing and plot development. Bring a story or chapter and have fun creating a simple storyboard. (No artistic ability required!)

  • “The Practical Side of Writing”

Children’s and young adult book author John Micklos, will focus on researching markets, developing ideas, preparing query letters, finding agents,and other aspects of the writing biz.  In addition to writing for young people, John is an award-winning education journalist.

COST: $90 for Saturday retreat, includes optional workshops and continental breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack.

HOUSING: $60 per room per night for a single OR choose a roommate and each pay $30 per night.

We’re working hard to make this affordable, so choose whichever option works best for you!

Deadline for registration is November 6, 2012. Due to limited space, only the first 25 participants accepted.  Don’t wait too long, or all spots will be filled before the deadline!
