Illustrator Profile: Susan Stockdale!

Today we’re shining our As The Eraser Burns spotlight on Children’s Book Author & Illustrator Susan Stockdale!

Fabulous Fishes

Susan is an award-winning author and illustrator of children’s picture books that celebrate the natural world. She grew up in Miami, Florida, and spent part of her childhood in Ireland; both places inspired her love of nature and its bright colors.  She creates her images in acrylic paint on paper. Having worked as a textile designer for the clothing industry, it is instinctive for her to find patterns in everything she paints.

Her 2011 book, Bring On the Birds, won a Parents’ Choice Award and has been nominated as an ALA Notable Children’s Book.

A coloring book called Susan Stockdale’s Birds will be published by Pomegranate Publishers in 2012, followed by a picture book about striped animals called Stripes of all Types from Peachtree Publishers in 2013. To learn more, visit her website at www.susanstockdale.com.

About Laura Bowers

Laura is a writer, runner, reader, runDisney addict, and blogger at As The Eraser Burns, Joyful Miles, and Write, Run, Rejoice. In the past, she's been a waitress, telemarketer, cook, real estate agent, and during her college days, a costumed character at holiday parades. (Memories of being terrorized as a candy cane still haunt her at night.) At the age of thirty, she pursued her dream of being a writer. Her first novel, Beauty Shop for Rent, a “Steel Magnolias for teens,” was inspired by a rusted sign by a charming old house, and now, she can honestly say that writing is a thousand times more rewarding than being a candy cane!
