Wednesday Woo-HOOs!

Hey, all!

Well, I have a freshly-brewed, yummy cup of coffee in front of me, Anne Murphy playing on the iPod, (Can I have This Dance, if you’re curious,) and a much-needed feeling of accomplishment after figuring out a difficult novel, (more on that later,) so I thought it’d be a great time to post some backlogged member announcements!

In other words, be ready to get your woo-hoo’s on!

(And Anne is now singing Daydream Believer.)

First off, a mighty congratulations and belated woo-HOO to Elaine Ann Allen for the release of her new book, OLLY’S TREASURE, which is the second in the Olly the Oyster series from Schiffer Publishing.

These stories teach children about oysters and the environment through whimsical illustrations and fun tales of sea animals that live in the Chesapeake Bay. Check out this shout-out Elaine got in The Capital! Also, head over to Goodreads Book Giveaway, (click the link on Elaine’s homepage,) to possibly win a copy. The contests–yikes–ends tomorrow, August 11th, so enter now!

Congratulations and a mighty woo-HOO also to Amy Hansen whose nonfiction book, BUGS AND BUGSICLES, was named to the 2010 John Burroughs list of outstanding nature books for young readers, an award presented by the John Burroughs Association and the American Museum of Natural History!

Awesome, Amy, that’s great news! She also gets a double woo-hoo-HOO for the release of her latest book HERMIT CRABS (a leveled-reader for second graders) by Learning A-Z!

Again, congratulations, Elaine and Amy, and best of luck with your current releases!

And, although this might be bordering tacky territory, I’m going to give myself a woo-HOO for finally, finally, FINALLY having a breakthrough with one of the two novels I’ve been wrestling with this summer. I absolutely love it, but something was missing, the missing ingredient that tied everything together. But somewhere between loading the dishwasher and going to workout, it hit me–what exactly the book is about.

Of course, this meant that I haven’t finished the dishes, worked out, or even showered after spending the entire day writing, but by George, I feel good!

And if you have any announcements, accomplishments, or woo-HOO worthy tidbits, then we’d love to hear about it! Shoot me an email at laura.bowers at and I’ll share it with the rest of the class.

Also, in case you don’t already have it marked on your calendar, our next ABC Event is on September 10, 2011, and will feature Jane Conly, author of MURDER AFLOAT! It will be held at the Pikesville Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. Hope to see you there!

Until then, happy writing!
