Regional Author Spotlights

Happy Wednesday, everyone!  It’s a beautiful, sunny day and a great time to post some well-deserved shout-outs.

Congratulations and a mighty woo-HOO to Ann McCallum who has a new website and blog to go along with her upcoming July 1, 2011 release of  EAT YOUR MATH HOMEWORK: RECIPES FOR HUNGRY MINDS!

Tantalize your taste buds with tasty math munchies including: Tessellating Two-Color Brownies, Milk and Tangram Cookies, and Variable Pizza Pi. It’s homework like you’ve never seen (or eaten) before!

Our interview with Ann will be posted closer to her release date.  Until then, be sure to stop by her website and blog and show her some SCBWI love!

Also deserving a congratulations and mighty woo-HOO is Maureen Stack Sappéy, author of five novels and numerous short stories and articles! Her Civil War novel, LETTERS FROM VINNIE …

… has earned several awards and has been optioned for an HBO miniseries where she will be featured in the documentary that will accompany the series.  Her Revolutionary War novel, which will be released this July 1st, has also been optioned for a movie.  (Seriously, how cool is that???)

Using the writing techniques of Dwight Swain, Maureen has taught writing courses at colleges and independent writing centers for over 25 years. This summer, she will accept three manuscripts of any genre for detailed line-by-line, content, and copy editing.  References by former clients can be reviewed.  If you’re interested, Maureen can by reached by email

Again, congrats, ladies!  🙂

“Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for each dollar spent. What I wonder is why everybody doesn’t carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life.”–Stephen King

Happy writing, all! 🙂

Hi, my Revolutionary War novel has only been optioned for a movie–lots of books are under option–it isn’t that big of a deal. But thanks for the kind words. Maureen

Oops, I went by the original announcement sent to me. Sorry, Maureen, I made the correction, but an option is still pretty daggone cool! 🙂

hi, thanks. I just heard from the producers with some exciting news, but for now it would be safer to say optioned. They had suggested I add stickers to the book with the words: coming soon–a major motion picture –so I will.
thanks for listing the info. I’m looking for clients right now and I heard from one possible client, last night.
Hope all is well with you, Laura.
