A Perfect Mix of Solitude and Community

On December 3-5, 2011, our MD/DE/WV region held its 3rd annual Weekend Retreat for Writers & Illustrators at the Blue Mountain Retreat Center near Knoxville, MD.  Thirteen of us participated in this weekend getaway, complete with delicious, catered organic meals, time for writing/illustrating, and time for sharing our work.  Author Lois Szymanski presented a workshop on “Character Building,” and author Edie Hemingway followed with a workshop entitled “A Look at Setting Through the Eyes and Moods of Your Character.” When it was time for a break or for mulling over ideas, the nearby C & O Canal path beckoned.

I think we all agreed “it was a joy and delight to spend the weekend in the company of such dedicated and talented writers and illustrators,” as John so aptly stated.  We’re already looking forward to next year’s retreat!
