The American Library Association announces creation of the Stonewall Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award, added to their other signature Youth Media Awards such as the Caldecott and Newbery medals. This change has created speculation as to whether this will be the prize for gay and lesbian books for children.

Publishers Lunch Deluxe noted the promotion of Kristin Daly Rens to senior editor at Balzer & Braywww.harperchildrens.com

    Are they any awards or incentives for great non fiction writing for children?

      Yes, there are some nonfiction awards. The Sibert is a major one. Go to the ALA.org site and look up the list of awards.
