A Note from Karen Jo Kresge

Telling Stories: Norman Rockwell from the Collections of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg exhibits at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC, until January 2, 2011.

Whether you write or illustrate or both, taking a moment to enjoy this display will nourish your creative soul long after you’ve left the museum.  Both the images and notations accompanying them tell stories and reveal creative processes to such an extent, that I walked away feeling as if I’d attended a master class in story telling.  The works included in the show span several decades, evolve from pitching products into inspiring movie direction, relish family and community life, and boast national enthusiasm and pride.  Wow.  I can’t wait to return.

  1. Thanks so much, Karen. My daughters and I were talking about this exhibit and I couldn’t remember where it is or for how long. Perfect timing!
