A Glimpse of SCBWI Headquarters

A couple days before the start of the national SCBWI conference in Los Angeles, Steve Mooser, SCBWI President, and Lin Oliver, Executive Director, invited all of the regional advisors and assistants, who had gathered for the conference, to dinner at SCBWI headquarters.  I expected a bland office environment in the middle of the city, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.  Our bus passed through a section of ritzy Beverly Hills to get there.  The headquarters itself is not in a ritzy area, but it is much more of a “California home” than an office–very much an indoor/outdoor space wrapped around a central garden, complete with full-sized trees, fountain, and sitting areas.  The offices spaces reflect their occupants’ personalities and are full of color, large windows, open doors, and books–lots of them–as well as artwork.

Lin and Steve made it clear that SCBWI members from around the world are welcome to visit the headquarters whenever they are in the Los Angeles area.  The address is 8271 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048.

I wished I had come prepared with a camera, but I did have my cell phone, so here are a few, rather blurry photos.
